From 5 to 8 November, our school library was buzzing with activity as we hosted a highly anticipated book fair. With three display cases brimming with popular, trending titles, the fair drew in enthusiastic readers eager to explore both well-loved stories and exciting new arrivals. Among the books were fan favourites like Heartstopper and other works by Alice Oseman, Lauren Roberts’ Powerless series, Five Nights at Freddy’s graphic novels and the latest instalment of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Additionally, students enjoyed browsing a selection of fun stationery, diaries and other book-themed items.
Our year seven and eight English classes had the special opportunity to visit the fair as part of their lesson, allowing students to explore the fair’s offerings and familiarise themselves with our recently revamped library. This valuable experience gave students a chance to delve into new genres and discuss fresh finds with their classmates, fostering a greater love for reading across the year groups.
Adding to the excitement, a raffle ran during the first two days of the fair. All students who visited the library during break or lunch on those two days were automatically entered and two lucky winners each received a £10 voucher to spend at the fair.
This year’s book fair proved to be an exceptional way to get students talking about books and sharing recommendations. The library echoed with discussions of newly discovered reads and favourites alike, creating a vibrant environment for literary exploration. The timing of the book fair was also perfect, as it coincided with the unveiling of our revamped library. With books now organized by genre and a cosy reading nook added, students are finding it easier than ever to dive into stories that capture their imaginations. The updated games cupboard, complete with new additions, has made the library a lively gathering space during break times.
